➜ Thanks for the article “There’s
No Place Like Home” in the
My cat was taken from his mother too young. He
lacks other cat social skills and is pretty attached to
my husband — he loves me but prefers him. He used
to be a huge scaredy cat, but since we got our second cat about a year later (who’s very confident and
social), he definitely came out of his shell. He still gets
spooked at random things — including his own shadow — but will now come out for new people.

➜ The guidelines for a happy home may be good
for some cats but not all. Our previously unadoptable kitty is very energetic and needy, and she’s
hostile toward all other animals. The first 18 months
of her life were spent in foster homes where she
would end up being shut in a room by herself, then
returned to the shelter to find another foster home.
We took a chance and adopted her, introducing
her to the outside world. She is allowed out only
during daylight hours. Since then, her personality
has really changed. She loves the outdoor smells,
sights, and porch sunshine available all afternoon.
She’s still needy and demands attention (and still
hates other animals), but her life is infinitely richer
and happier. Her indoor time consists of lots of quali-
ty playtime with my husband before bedtime.
My point is that not all cats are the same. But
cats of all personalities deserve a good home.
