7Stray Cat Alliance After finding a feral kitten in a backyard full of abandoned cats in Los Angeles, Christi Metropole discovered that cats have a low chance of being adopted from shelters, and
little to no low-cost spay/neuter existed.
Christi set out to find a humane way of solv-
ing cat overpopulation instead of trapping
and killing them, when she came across
trap/neuter/return and learned that
this issue could be solved.
So, in 2000, Christi and a small
group of volunteers created
Stray Cat Alliance, which strives
to build a no-kill nation and
advocates for free and easy access
to spay/neuter for owned and commu-
Stray Cat Alliance runs four public programs to achieve different goals: reduce
the cat population through spay/neuter,
ensure cats receive medical care, teach
individuals how to protect cats in their
communities, and provide foster care to
kittens until they find permanent homes.
“Together we’ve empowered people and given
out lifesaving resources that have saved tens of thousands of cats in underserved communities,” Christi said.
Recently, Stray Cat Alliance ran #OperationKern100,
where it rescued more than 100 cats from a hoarding
situation in Mojave, California. Petsmart Charities made
a generous emergency medical grant to support the
care of these cats.
“These cats had been abandoned and let down
by humans multiple times. We could not see
their lives end at a shelter; they deserved a
chance at life,” Christi said.

to him or her.”
