I’ve never taken my cat, Crash, on a major vacation.
However, I’ve taken him up to my brother’s lake
house. It’s about two hours in the car, which Crash
usually handles well. When we get there, he finds a
comfortable perch next to the full wall of windows
facing the lake. He loves to spend hours watching
the birds, people out on boats or even just the
water moving on the lake. He’s been there three or
four times now, and each time he goes I think he
likes it more and more!

Our cat, Jake, needs medication twice a
day due to a serious illness. I don’t trust
anyone to take care of his needs, so he
came on vacation to Myrtle Beach with us.
Jake did not enjoy the 10-hour drive — he
cried for the first 6 hours! However, he
loved the beach air and the attention of
being the only cat! In fact, he didn’t want
to go back home: While just outside the
car at a rest stop, he locked us out! Jake
was ready to head back to the beach with
or without us! Luckily my fiancé was able
to use the beach umbrella and a cracked
window to unlock the door. It was defi-
nitely a vacation to remember!
