Anxious much? Yeah, apparently the whole country
is, and it’s not just people; our cats are dealing with anxiety, too.
Anxiety seems to be the hot mental health diagnosis these days, so
we thought we’d dig into it this issue.
Cat behaviorist Rita Reimers looks at fearful cats, what triggers
fear in cats and, of course — cuz we’re here for you — what you can
do for your cat.
And what turns us into scaredy cats? Terrifying vet bills. Our
Recessionista columnist JaneA Kelley delved into crisis management
of some sky-high vet bills when your cat has an unexpected health
crisis. (If you are a worrier, don’t read it before going to bed!)
Regular contributor Susan Logan-McCracken asked if our anxiety
affects our cats and vice versa in “Should I Be Afraid of This?” The
answer is yes. Whether that’s means if our anxiety affects our cats or
should I be afraid of this, you’ll just have to read to find out.
But we didn’t stop there. We got more chilling and took a turn for
the spooky, celebrating the hauntingly wonderful holiday, Halloween!
We’ve got black cats and more black cats (Bombay profile, Pix We
Love), pumpkin-inspired cat foods (giveaways! hurray!), Halloween
cats galore in Photo Booth, a debate about cats and costumes in
Confessions, a feature on cat superstitions, and we’re traveling to — you guessed it — Salem, in Cat Tourism.
But we wanted to end with a mew and not a hiss.
Michael Leaverton will leave you laughing when he asked
his cat Stella, “Who’s a Scaredy Cat?”

treat cook-offs, dog photography and editing, and DIY projects. Find out more at Bark WorldExpo.com. Follow
Bark World Expo on Facebook and Twitter.
WHAT WE’RE UP TO
Well, we were at
CatConLA. That’s right:
The Catster magazine
and website editors and
all 10,000 of our cool cat
friends. It really was an
amazing time, but don’t
take my word for it — I took
pics for you. Check them out
on Page 5. Next month I’ll be
blazing (and I do mean blazing
because it’s in Las Vegas in July) a path to SuperZoo
to check out the hottest (OK, can’t help myself)
new pet products. We’ll get them here in Catster
and make sure to do giveaways. After that, it’s a
bi-petual cat/dog party in Atlanta in November for
Bark World. Join us for that; see details below. And,
of course, Annie’s got new foster kitties. We put
them in bow ties we got from CatConLA and took
pictures that will be sure to get them adopted
YES, IT’S A CAT
We’re profiling Kathy, Kaitlyn,
and Cornish Rex Gia on our
last page, Purrs. For some
good mews, read their amazing story and check out
Gia’s amazing gowns. Want
more Kathy, Kaitlyn, and Gia? They’ll be at the Cat
Fashion Show held by Kevin Ugarte of Wow Wow
Ugarte Collections at the National Capital Cat
Show held in the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly,
Va., on September 12-13, 2015. Not only will you see
happy cats in fashionable gowns, you can check
out the cats running in the agility course as well.
Sr. Editorial Director
Oh yes, you’ll want to meet our cover
cat. The wildly popular Atchoum —
Internet sensation and, now, Catster
magazine cover cat. We’ve got this sweet
kitty’s full profile on Page 50. Big thanks
to photographer Jack Dixon of Meow
Quarterly for the wonderful photos.
