a happy kitty? We all know how
unhappy cats let us know unambiguously about their displeasure. So
if they are happy, we humans are
The CATalyst Council — a coalition of veterinarians, animal-welfare
nonprofits and others — invented
Happy Cat Month as an annual
September ritual. The group started
the promotion to help inform cat
parents about the health and welfare
of their companion kitties.
Often, people think of cats as
emotionally aloof and less in need
of medical care than dogs — which,
as we all know, isn’t true. Happy Cat
Month aims to counteract these
misconceptions and help cat families understand how to care for and
enrich their feline companions.

Happy Cat Month

It’s time for Halloween candy —
but not for your cat! Instead, give
her some yummy treats made
just for her.
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
2. In a food processor, blend carrots,
applesauce, and pumpkin until
3. Mix rice flour and oatmeal in a
4. Add wet ingredients to the dry and
mix gently until dough forms.
5. On a floured breadboard, place
dough and roll out to about
1⁄4-inch in thickness. (If you have
trouble rolling, you can also just
pat down the dough with your
6. Use cookie cutters to cut out little
7. Place cookies on a greased cookie
sheet and bake for seven minutes.
8. Flip treats over and bake for five
more minutes. Remove from oven
and cool thoroughly.
